More Than Just Another Sport

Most athletes grow up believing sports have an ending.

Maybe it's after high school.

Maybe it's after college.

Maybe it's when work gets busy, kids come along, or your body doesn't recover quite like it used to.

For so many people, sports become something they used to do.

That was my mindset too.

I grew up with softball golve and a lacrosse stick in my hands. I played attack in lacrosse, and I was always ball hungry. I loved the competition, the pressure, and the feeling of being surrounded by teammates all chasing the same goal - having some fun and maybe wining a game if it worked out.

I thought that was what falling in love with sports meant.

Then I walked through the doors at The Heights looking for a job.

I wasn't looking for another sport.

I wasn't looking for another passion.

But somewhere between my first few matches and the hundreds that followed, I realized something had changed.

This wasn't just another game.

It was the first lifetime sport I'd ever experienced.

The competition never disappeared—it just evolved.

You still compete. You still chase every ball. You still leave the court replaying points in your head and thinking about the next time you'll play.

But now the sport fits around your life instead of your life fitting around the sport.

That's what makes padel so different.

It's why professional athletes like Lionel Messi and Carlos Alcaraz play when they're away from their own sports. It's why Tom Holland has helped introduce padel to new audiences. It's why comedians like Andrew Schulz can't stop talking about it. And it's why companies like Red Bull have invested in Premier Padel and the sport's global growth.

People aren't just discovering a new game.

They're discovering a sport they can play for decades.

Today, I'm at The Heights seven days a week.

Yes, I'm the General Manager.

But I'd probably still be here even if I wasn't.

Because somewhere along the way, this stopped being where I work.

It became where I play, where I compete, and where I've met complete strangers and they have became my friends. I have traveled with my members friends.
