Padel 101 - How to Play
The Basics
-
Played 2 vs 2
-
Scoring is the same as tennis (15, 30, 40, game)
-
Matches are typically best of 3 sets
-
You must win by 2 games
The Serve
-
Serve is underhand only
-
Ball must bounce before contact
-
Contact must be below waist height
-
Serve diagonally into the opposite service box
-
Must land in the box without hitting the fence first
During the Point
-
Ball can bounce once before returning
-
You can hit the ball before or after it hits the glass on your side
-
The ball must go over the net and land in bounds
-
You can volley (hit before bounce), except on the return of serve
Using the Walls
-
After the bounce, the ball can hit the back or side glass
-
You can use the walls to defend or extend points
-
If the ball hits the fence on your side → point over
How You Win a Point

Opponent misses the ball or hits it out
-
Ball bounces twice on opponent’s side
-
Ball hits opponent’s fence or doesn’t clear the net
-
You hit a shot they cannot return
